When it comes to being healthy and being human one word comes to mind. Moderation. And so it is with moderation that I present you with this next post.

The best strawberries mojitos ever! At least we got a 2/2 in this household and we both have pretty high standards for our mojitos. For me mojiots are the perfect summer drink. Light, refreshingly crisp and slightly sweet, the best addition to a hot summer day 🙂 I actually try to not drink during the weekdays but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I won’t lie, there are a few drawbacks to a mojito, like the amount of ingredients and the whole muddling process. But the ends outweigh the means for sure. And I’ve got a few tips to help you out.

#1 Make you own simple syrup. (I used 1/2 raw sugar 1/2 water, a bit healthier than the original)

#2 Preslice limes and pre-tear mint leaves off stems. If you spend just 5 minutes preping your ingredients it will make it so much easier when you, or your guests, want to make a drink. In my opinion mojitos are best made indivdiually and therefore call for this process. I guess you could throw some sugar, bottled lime juice, mint extract, and rum together and get… something, but I def wouldn’t call it a mojito.

#3 Prejuice the additional fruit added to the drink. For this drink I used organic strawberries from the farmers market, threw about 8 into the magic bullet, and pureed until smooth. Kept in the fridge until party time!

#4 Have a designated drink station with ingredients and mixer cup, (the one you pour the drink into and then out of). This minimizes mess to a single area. I can’t help out on the mess. Just clean it before you go to bed. Hopefully.

#5 Remember, moderation. Even though these mojitos are way less calories than from the bar, they still have sugar, alcohol and juice which equal calories and hangover if you aren’t too careful.

But they sure are good, be sure to enjoy at least one. Replace the spirits with more soda water if you prefer, the refreshness will reach you all the same.

Strawberry Mojitos

serves 1

~10-12 mint leaves, one sprig is usually enough

1/2 lime cut into 4 wedges

1 1/2 oz. light rum

1/2 oz. simple syrup

1/2 oz. strawberry puree

club soda

Muddle the mint and lime together until you’ve squeezed all the juice out of the limes. About 30 seconds should do the trick. Next add the syrup, then ice, rum, strawberry puree and top it off with some club soda. Mix with a spoon or the fun way, by pouring into another cup and back again. Messy, but fun!

Don’t have strawberries? Use oranges, blood oranges, peaches, plums, raspberries, whatever you have on hand. Or just enjoy the traditional mojito without the fruit flavor. Equally delicious!
